3 Ways You Can Find Hope & Healing Through Flowers
February can be a bit of a dreary month, and it’s about this time of year when it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning because it’s cold and dark and usually rainy!
So I wanted to bring a little brightness to your life this morning! I’ve compiled a few inspiring stories that wonderful women have shared with me recently, and with their permission I’m sharing them with you.
I have no doubt that these short (notice how I’m emphasizing these are short–ha!) anecdotes will
-inspire you
-remind you of God’s love for you
-brighten your day, at the very least
These three short vignettes affirm 3 things:
Both receiving and gifting flowers connects you with other women who are just like you–women who want to be appreciated and seen.
Seeing flowers both in the home and outside brings brightness to your life–both figuratively and literally.
Gifting flowers makes you a witness of God’s love for others
#1 Rachel’s story: Both receiving and gifting flowers connects you with other women who are just like you–women who want to be appreciated and seen.
During a time of immense uncertainty while her husband was looking for employment to support their family, Rachel was feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
“There was one morning that I was feeling extremely overwhelmed when a friend came by and dropped off a beautiful bouquet of flowers. I hadn’t told anyone what was going on, so this delivery was random, but it made me feel seen. Seen by this friend, seen by God. When I was feeling so dark and gloomy inside, these gorgeous vibrant flowers brightened my day. I’ve always loved receiving flowers (pretty much just from my husband on Valentine's Day or some other special occasion) but this time felt different. It’s still hard for me to put into words why it was so meaningful to me or how it made me feel, but I believe it was the first time I felt the healing and connecting power of flowers.”
#2 Kristen’s story: Seeing flowers both in the home and outside brings brightness to your life–both figuratively and literally.
Kristen was devastated when her daughter confided in her that a dear friend of hers had attempted suicide that day. While grappling with how to comfort her daughter, a friend dropped off a bouquet of flowers, unaware of the tragedy that had occurred that day.
“The flowers were brought on the perfect day. After her friend’s attempted suicide, the beautiful flowers helped to bring my daughter peace and brightened up our day. We felt so loved.”
#3 My Own Story: Gifting flowers makes you a witness of God’s love for others.
I would be lying if I said I didn’t keep a lot of flowers for myself.
But one morning I cut a bouquet and had the thought that I needed to give them to someone, I just didn’t know who.
After thinking about it, a name came to my mind of someone that I’m not even friends with–just an acquaintance.
I drove to her house, rang the doorbell, and this woman looked shocked to see the flowers in my hand.
She said “How did you know it was my birthday? I haven’t told anyone.”
I didn’t. I had no idea. But I told her that she had been on my mind.
Driving home, I realized that God had sent me there. God was looking out for this woman who needed to feel seen on her birthday, and I am still so grateful he used me to do His work.
Flowers have power, people! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they exist. I don’t think they grow “just because.”
Flowers were placed on this earth for a reason, and so were you.
I hope one of these stories resonate with you, shoot me an email if you have one of your own! I never tire of hearing stories like this–they’re my “why.” Can’t wait to wait to hear from you!
