Top Floral Trends of 2023

I don’t need to tell you all the ways that March 2020 changed us.

For me personally, it was one of the loneliest seasons of my life.

Now, almost 3 years into it, connection has never been more important.

Experiences have never been more craved and longed for.

Time outdoors has never been so essential.

Society as a whole has rearranged her priorities, and the top floral design trends of 2023 reflect it!

If you are considering any events that involve flowers this year, take these trends into mind.

Why? Your friends and family will feel connected, inspired, creative, and bold.

THAT’S what these trends are about.

Flowers that make you FEEL strong

Without further ado, here are the top floral trends of 2023!

TREND #1 : BOLD COLOR

Pre-covid, design trends lived in a world of a beige, off-white farmhouse.

Now that the world has looked death in the face for two years straight, we crave strength and fearlessness found in bold color.

Just as interior design trends are changing, so are floral design trends.

Gone are the days of a crisp white, blush, and green palette.

Color is IN.

TREND #2: LESS GREENERY

This kinda goes along with bold color, but it needs to be stated all the same.

There’s a time and place for foliage. 2023 is not one of them.

Complimentary and contrasting colors can frame a floral design just as well as neutrals.

Fun fact: greenery does not, and has rarely, cost less than actual flowers. Might as well skip the expensive filler, if you ask me.

Go big or go home, baby! Color all the way!

TREND #3: THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR

If you’re not sure what the Pantone Color of the year is or what it means, every year since 2000 the Pantone Color institute  researches, analyzes, and forecasts to predict the color trends for the upcoming year. Whichever color they choose is based on their research that best represents what is going on in the world, something that represents this moment in time. It has become a phenomenon that impacts interior design, fashion, weddings and events, and, you guessed it, floral design.

2023 Color of the year: Viva Magenta. In all her glory.

Bold. Fearless. Optimistic. To quote the Executive Director of the Pantone Color institute, “It is a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”

Who wouldn’t want that represented at their special event?! It’s perfect.

TREND #4: FLOWERS THAT ARE ACTUALLY IN SEASON

-Sorry peonies. You’re my favorite flower of all time, but trying to fit them into an August wedding is a littles strange. Same with tulips. They are literally only blooming in May unless you live in Alaska.

-If you aren’t sure which flowers are “in season” at a given time, just ask! Here are some favorite focal flowers for each season:

Spring: Peonies (duh), tulips, poppies, anemones, ranunculus

Summer: Sunflowers, zinnias, Dahlias, Lisianthus

Fall: Dahlias, sunflowers, zinnias, heirloom Chrysanthemums

Winter: Greenhouse grown tulips, anemones, and ranunculus.

TREND #5: FLORAL EXPERIENCES:

My favorite trend!

Have you ever noticed how playing with flowers can set your heart on fire?! I know it can’t be just me. It’s the chance to get creative with something so fleeting and so beautiful.

Experiencing flowers with your hands, not just your eyes, grounds you. It connects us, it centers us, it rejuvenates us.

We all craved a little more of that after Covid.

Here are some ideas to bring floral experiences into your life this year:

  • -Flower bars at bridal showers or company parties

  • -Community Gardening

  • -Pick-your-own farms.

  • -Floral design classes.

There you have it, friends. 2023 is all about making a statement! We all crave to feel powerful, strong, and optimistic. Flowers do just that.
