Top Floral Trends of 2024
Every year, the leaders of the floral industry evaluate trends that they see cropping up for the coming year.
These leaders observe what’s happening in society, in culture, in values, and everything in between to determine what floral trends are to be expected for the coming year.
Many of this year’s trends are a continuation of last year’s trends, which can be found in my blogpost here.
For the sake of simplicity, I’ve narrowed down the top floral trends of 2024 into 5 categories.
Native Plants and Flora
In the gardening and farming world, native plants have become more important in the use of landscaping and gardening. Native plants are plants that non-invasive and have likely been growing in the area for hundreds of years.
Plants like these are goldenrod, Queen Anne’s lace, and rudbeckia.
Native plants are excellent at benefitting pollinators, and play a vital role in our ecosystem–thus having them in your floral arrangement adds unique seasonality and awareness.
2. Garden Vibes
This brings us to our next trend, which is very similar to using native plants! The whimsical nature of gardens is being explored in floral arranging like never before and I am Here! For! It!
Structured, tight, round mounds of perfect arrangements are no more. Instead, people are gravitating towards the texture and airy accents of the garden–especially the classic English garden.
Flowers that complement this aesthetic are any local flowers such as dahlias, celosia, snapdragons, zinnias (i.e. not roses shipped in from South America).
3. Fragrant Flowers
Are you seeing a connection here??
Fragrance has always been important to floral enthusiasts, but this year the purpose of fragrant flowers is to bring back nostalgia to floral design.
Adding flowers with unique fragrance adds to the “garden aesthetic” and evokes memories of loved ones.
Fragrant flowers that designers are adding to bouquets include herbs such as oregano, mint, and basil. Other flowers that add unique scent to your bouquet are peonies, garden grown roses, snapdragons, stock, and marigolds.
4. Warm and saturated colors
While neutrals and whites will likely always be in style, since Covid, society is gravitating towards more saturation in their floral arrangements–evoking happy memories.
Last year, Pantone’s color of the year was a bright, vivid magenta. It was awesome!
While this year’s color is not as vivid, it is warm and comforting–peach fuzz.
The name alone instills peace and compassion, and there are plenty of flowers that are bred to grow in that warm peachy color–particularly dahlias!
5. Sisterhood
What does sisterhood have to do with flowers? Well, what started with the Barbie phenomenon of 2023 is trickling into every aspect of our lives in 2024.
It’s the year of the girls!
This means that, in regards to the floral industry, floral experiences with friends are getting more and more popular. Girls nights, weekends away, time spent outside, ladies outings–all of it.
In the words of Miley Cyrus, “I can buy myself flowers.”
While I absolutely love seeing families and couples picking flowers together, there’s something extra fun about women gathering together to pick flowers–there’s a power in it.
I’m loving these trends in the floral industry this year! If you have any questions or comments, let me know and we can chat!
